RE: Holy Trinity Romanian Church Sunland Building Project;
Letter of Support from Mr. Alex Padilla, District 7
Dear Mr. Morton:
I hope this transmittal find you well. I have been attempting to contact you regarding the letter of support that the Holy Trinity Romanian Church is so desperately in need of. Although we have spoke on many occasions in the past few months and you indicated that the letter of support is being drafted and is at the point were it can issued, I have yet to have a time frame for its issuance.
As you know, our church received its conditional use permit and is still valid and in legal effect. The church is facing increasing difficulties in continuing and keeping the building of the project on track with nearly $200,000.00 already spent more than two years ago to have all necessary plans approved. Additionally, the crucial issues such as time sensitive construction tasks like the need for proper land grading, the initial start of erecting the physical structures and facing the increase in construction costs via increased lumbar and gas prices highlighted in my original letter of June 26, 2006 are ever present and growing in intensity.
Moroever, the church is again experiencing the negative effect that the delay has had on parishioners in light of the fact that it has been more than on year since the announcement of the start of the construction. The church's magazine that was recently issued to its parishioners had to further explain the delay in construction already slated to move forward. Indeed, the diminution of motivation for the parishioners to commit to future investment commitments post construction and beyond is still a cause for extreme concern.
Ultimately, the delay is putting our church in danger of losing funding from the national orthodox diocesan organization that is helping with the project. It is only with the letter of support that will allow the commencement of construction of the church within an allotted time to preserve the over $1,000,000.00 dollars in earmarked funds for construction.
I appreciate that Mr. Dan Morales is not with now Senator Padilla's office but I am hopeful that given the letter's brief length and straight forward substance will not preclude another member of the district office to finalize the draft you indicated was already started by Mr. Morales.
If there is anything that my office can assist with the facilitation of the issuance of the letter of support, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. I have previously provided you with both my office contact information and personal cell phone number.
I look forward to your response.
