November 26, 1925 - January 17, 2013

George Alexe of Auburn Hills died January 17, 2013, at Medilodge of Rochester Hills. He was 87 years old. Mr. Alexe was born November 26, 1925, in Smardan, Romania, to Vita (nee Serban) and Constantin Alexe.
George Alexe has passed away.

Born on November 26, 1925, in Smārdan, Buzau, George Alexe was the son of Constantin and Vitza, was married to Ruxandra Didi in 1960. He left Romania in 1968, settling first in Canada and then in the United States (1971). In 1945 he graduated from the Theological Seminary "Kesarie the Bishop" from Buzau, and in 1948 graduated the Faculty of Theology of the University of Bucharest. From 1951 to 1955 he followed postgraduate studies. He was the publisher and editor of the religious magazines of the Romanian Patriarchate in Bucharest between 1956 and 1959, librarian at the Library of the Holy Synod and general inspector at the Department of Foreign Relations of the Patriarchate, George Alexe had a rich literary and journalistic activity.

He was also the editor of the Voice of the Church and the Faith Calendar of our Archdiocese. For many years he was part of the editorial board of the Publications Department of the Archdiocese, as secretary together with Archbishop Bartolomeu Anania. He was a member of numerous Romanian-American or Romanian-Canadian societies.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Holy Trinity Parish Church in Troy, MI.

Mr. Alexe is survived by his beloved wife, Ruxandra Alexe and his sister, Eliza Grigore. He is also survived by 5 sisters-in-law, 4 nephews and their families, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, and a lot of good friends in Romania, Europe, Canada, Australia and the United States.
