Nineteen (19) parishes and missions, located in seven (7) states, are assigned to the Pacific Coast Deanery, as follows:

Sketch on Deanery's Parishes and Missions


Administration, education, services : During 2007/2008 all the deanery's parishes and missions carried on their religious, administrative, educational and social programs, as set forth by their clergy and parish councils, according to the schedule of activities, published through their parochial bulletins, occasional flyers, and/or web-sites (for those parishes that have web-pages).


Hierarchical visits : Throughout 2007 both Hierarchs: His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel and His Grace Bishop Irineu, made innumerable visits in the Pacific Coast Deanery's parishes and missions. The dates our Hierarchs visited, and the services where they participated are mentioned in the reports of each parish and mission separately.


“Archpriest” Title awarded to ten (10) priests of Pacific Coast Deanery: On March 21st , 2007, at the proposal of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in America awarded the title of “Archpriest” to 40 brother priests of ROEA, among whom 10 belong to the Pacific Coast Deanery. •  Exaltation Of The Holy Cross Orthodox Church - V. Rev. Fr. Alin Munteanu, parish priest. Exaltation Of The Holy Cross Orthodox Church is an English-speaking mission of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, established in 2007. Web site:    


•  St. Parascheva Mission , Phoenix, AZ - V. Rev. Fr. Vasile Parau, parish priest. The parish priest, and the mission's faithful, are dedicated to holding regular services and attracting more members to the mission.




•  Falling Asleep of the Ever-Virgin Mary Church , Anaheim, CA – Very Rev. Fr. Cornel Avramescu, parish priest. Hierarchical visit: August 17-18 2007, the church's patronal Feast-Day. His Grace Bishop Irineu presided over Holy Unction Service (Friday August 17) & Hierarchical Divine Liturgy (Saturday, August 18). With the iconography completed, arrangements are sought with His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel to be make provisions for the consecration of the Church. Web page –


•    St. John the Evangelist Mission , Claremont, CA – V. Rev. dr. Catalin Mitescu, administrator. Especially since his retirement in 2007, services are rarely officiated on the campus; the faculty and Orthodox students of various Church affiliations appreciate the existence of this mission.


•  Holy Resurrection Church , Hayward, CA - Until the beginning of December 2007 the Holy Resurrection parish in Hayward, was pastorated by Fr. Gabriel Curpene. Services were held regularly throughout the year. Since the beginning of December 2007 the services were held sporadically, either by Fr. James, or some visiting clergymen with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel. On April 13, 2008 Rev. Fr. Octavian Mahler visited Holy Resurrection, concelebrated with Fr. James, with the hope of the parish council that Father Octavian may be appointed as the Church's parish priest.


•  Holy Trinity Church, Los Angeles , CA – V. Rev. Fr. Constantin Alecse, Parish priest; Rev. Fr. Virgil Anton, attached. At the Descent of the Holy Spirit Chapel (attached to the Holy Trinity parish), the services are held entirely in English by Fr. Virgil Anton, for the non-Romanian speaking faithful, adults and children alike. The parish publishes a “ Viata Crestina ” magazine every trimester (in printed and electronic format). Web-page –

•  Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel Church , Palm Springs, CA. Rev. Liviu Popa, parish priest and V. Rev. Fr. Silviu Vasilie, attached priest.

Although the Holy Archangels parish in Palm Springs, CA, has a small number of faithful, they are very active, and under the wise guidance of the parish priest, they have achieve a lot of things on every level: spiritually, socially and administratively. The parish has completed the major project of building its new church, and presently awaits the consecration date from His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel. Hierarchical visits: On January 1st, 2007, the Divine Liturgy was pontificated by His Grace Bishop Irineu.

On Saturday, February 10th 2007, the parish was honored with the visit of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel, who pontificated a Hierarchical Liturgy, and a memorial service (Saturday of the souls).


•  St. Anne Church, Pomona, CA – Rev. Andrew J Lesko, Parish priest, V. Rev. Fr. Dr. Catalin Mitescu, co-pastor. Hierarchical Visits: February 10-11, 2007, Hierarchical Vespers Service, and Hierarchical Liturgy by His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel, marking the 20th anniversary of the parish and 20th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood of V. Rev. Fr. Catalin Mitescu, then parish priest. In mid-2007 Rev. Andrew J Lesko was appointed as Parish priest, Fr. Mitescu remaining co-pastor.

Since the parish has moved to a bigger space the clergy and faithful are working towards increasing its membership, bringing in converts and attracting new faithful from the Pomona Valley's Orthodox Community. Web-page:

•  SS. Michael and Gabriel Church , Sacramento, CA - Rev. Florin Mihalache, served the parish as parish priest, until September 2007, when he had chosen to repatriate to Romania. At the beginning of 2008, His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel appointed Rev Fr. Deacon Emil Ardelean as Parish priest, being ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Grace Bishop Irineu, on Sunday, February 24, 2008. The parish, with its beautifully painted church, and the enthusiasm of its new parish priest and lay-leadership is continuing its growth, both numerically and spiritually.

•  Holy Cross Mission, San Diego , CA – Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Iustin Capsa, the Holy Cross Mission' faithful have done and continue doing their best to fulfill the task of spreading the Orthodox Faith in the greater San Diego Metropolitan center and surrounding areas. Hierarchical visits: On December 31st , 2006 His Grace Bishop Irineu officiated the Divine Liturgy for the faithful of Holy Cross Mission.


•  Holy Cross Church, San Jose , CA - Rev. Constantin Lapustea, parish priest.

The building of the new church on the property the community acquired in San Jose, a few years ago, has been completed. Since the completion of the new church, the Holy Cross Mission have made incredible progress: Services are held on a regular basis; the iconostasis and church furniture were contracted with a firm in Humulesti, Romania. •  St. John The Hozevite Mission - Denver, Colorado. Established in 2004, the St. John The Hozevite Mission is shepherded by young priest, V. Rev. Fr. Gheorghe Cristian Lutas. The mission has already started a building project. Website:


•  St Dimitrie the New Mission – Founded in 2007, the mission is pastorated by Rev Fr Ioan Bogdan. Services are held at Wesley Chapel @ 1290 Folsom St, Boulder CO 80302-6810. 2 acres of land, where we will build the church and the social hall, were donated by Mr. & Mrs. Nicolae Toderica. •  Falling Asleep of the Ever-Virgin Mary Mission , Las Vegas, NV - Rev. Danut Palanceanu

The parish priest, Rev. Fr. Danut Palanceanu, and the new parish council, together making a very active team, are doing their best to progress with their arrangements for building a church and a parish hall on their new acquired property.

Hierarchical Visits: During January 6th and 7th , 2007 (Epiphany & St. John's Feastdays respectively), Divine Liturgies by His Grace Bishop Irineu.




•  Nativity of the Lord Mission , Albuquerque, NM. The mission was established in 2003, and was shepherded by V. Rev. Fr. Gabriel Bulz until 2006. Presently, the mission is in need of a permanent priest to carry on its administrative duties and sacramental functions.




•  Descent of the Holy Spirit Church , Oregon City, is pastorated by V. Rev. Fr. Vasile Muntean. “The Descent of the Holy Spirit, a “Putna” replica Church in Oregon City, ”, is in existence since 2002. Under the guidance of the parish priest, the painting of the church, done by the Romanian painter Ion Popescu, and daughter Magdalena, was entirely finished by September 15, 2007, when His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel, His Grace Bishop Irineu, surrounded by a sobor of priests and deacons, consecrated this Romanian jewel. •  Falling Asleep of the Ever-Virgin Mary Church , Portland, OR – Rev. Fr. Cosmin Vint, parish priest. Hierarchical visits: Sunday, August 19, 2007 His Grace Bishop Irineu officiated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on the Church's patronal Feast Day.

Between August 20-23 2007, in the presence of His Grace Bishop Irineu, the parish organized its annual “Northwest Summer Church Camp for the Youth”.

On September 14, 2007 His Grace Bishop Irineu pontificated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast-Day of the Elevation of the Holy Cross; Same day, in the evening: The Vespers Service. •  Three Hierarchs Mission , Seattle – Rev. Ioan Catana, parish priest - Building program: With the acquisition, in 2004, of a property in Mountlake Terrace and the completion, in 2007 of the architectural project, the parish is looking ahead, hoping that in 2008 the community will be able to attend services in their own parish church and, in doing so, to introduce the diverse Seattle community to the rich religious, cultural and architectural Romanian traditions.. We wish to thank our Episcopate's beloved Hierarchs, HE Archbishop Nathaniel and HG Bishop Irineu, the Hierarchical visits and archpastoral Blessings they bestowed on our parishes and missions on their Hierarchical yearly visits. Also, we are grateful to the Almighty God for such dedicated faithful of our parishes and missions, for the sacrifices they have made to support their churches, and, in many cases, undertaking great responsibilities to build new ones. Last but not least, we thank the Almighty God for protecting our Episcopate and parishes, and giving our Episcopate dedicated priests to fulfill their calling in God's vineyard.
